Introduction to Web Design

This web design course is a very comprehensive, detailed online course that teaches how to plan, organize, and create a web site from start to finish. The course places a heavy emphasis on individual page design and layout. Using some very powerful techniques taught in this course, you will learn how even the most simplest of pages can be arranged to look more appealing and professional! By the end of this design course, students will have created a well-designed web site while having fun along the way. This course is recommended for those who want to:
  • Develop or improve their web design skills
  • Improve their personal web site
  • Enhance their web site to advertise their web developer services

Students will learn how to develop a site specification that serves as a roadmap while designing their website and can be used as a negotiating tool for potential clients.

Each week students will create a web page that integrates the many topics covered in the textbook and lectures. They will also update pages created during previous weeks to conform to the current lesson, resulting in a polished web site. Some of the things discussed in this course are: planning (what to do before you even start writing code!), site structure, page layout, the home page, presentation, (which includes designing for different screen resolutions), printing, navigation, the cache, images, content, fonts, and much more. The combination of the textbook and over 20 lectures gives the student a well-rounded background in web design.

Students desiring to learn the difference between good vs. not-so-good web design should find this course challenging, yet informative and fun! If you are considering web design as a career choice, this class will help you get started.

How eClasses Work:The classroom environment is based on Lundeen & Associates Web Crossing technology, a threaded messaging system. Instructors post lectures, reading selections, and hands-on assignments once a week in the online classroom. Students can discuss the assignments with the instructor and amongst themselves in the classroom area. This format has no set meeting time, which allows students to attend class at a time most convenient to them, yet still provides logically organized communication between class participants. Students can apply for the completion certificate after finishing the class. Web Study certificate is also available.
